How to Address Job Hopping on Your Resume

Multiple short stints? Here's how to frame them so employers see value, not red flags.

Use Years When Months Highlight Gaps

If you had several roles under a year each, using only years (e.g., "2022–2023") can smooth the timeline. Be ready to explain in interviews if asked.

Group Contract or Freelance Work

If you had many short contracts, consider grouping: "Freelance Designer, Various Clients, 2021–2023" with bullet points summarizing projects and outcomes.

Emphasize Progression and Learning

Frame moves as growth: "Advanced to larger scope and team" or "Sought roles to build skills in X."

Address It in Your Summary

One line can help: "Varied experience across startups and enterprise, with a track record of rapid ramp-up and delivery."

Be Honest

Don't hide jobs or inflate tenure. If asked, explain briefly and positively. Many industries (tech, consulting) have higher mobility—employers understand.
