Resume Tips for Students and New Grads

No full-time job yet? Use projects, coursework, internships, and extracurriculars to show you're ready.

Lead With Education and Relevant Experience

For new grads, education often goes near the top. Include GPA if it's strong (e.g., 3.5+), relevant coursework, honours, and Dean's List.

Create a Projects Section

Capstone projects, hackathons, group assignments, and personal projects count. Describe what you built, your role, tools used, and outcome.

Highlight Internships and Co-ops

Treat them like real jobs. Use bullet points with achievements and skills gained.

Include Extracurriculars and Leadership

Clubs, sports, volunteer work, and part-time jobs show initiative and soft skills. Pick the most relevant.

Skills Section Matters

List technical skills, software, and languages. Match them to the job description.

Keep It to One Page

New grads rarely need two pages. Be selective—quality over quantity.
